We first came across Walkerboy on his single ‘On a Roll’, a track he put out a few years back. In it, he raps over a drill beat produced by his long-time collaborator Utility, while he’s hanging out the passenger window of an all-black Range. For the uninitiated:

Anyway, we waited. He dropped a few singles, then put out a full album with T Breezy in 2024, then disappeared. We spoke to him this week to ask what happened. He said simply: ‘Me and Breez (T Breezy) went off the radar. At the time I was on this side of the border, he was on the other.’

Given the quality of his early work, the minute his name popped up, it was an instant add to the library. Walkerboy’s new EP GHETTO KID is four tracks, but it almost acts like a reset. Released mid-January, hopefully it’s a preview of what’s to come. When we asked if more is coming, he told Loiter: ‘New music in 2026 for sure, bigger and better things.’

What stands out is the lyricism. This isn’t background music. You’ll catch yourself nodding along and trying to keep track because he’s really rapping.

For us, the standout is ‘Ghetto Kid’. He keeps it all the way real and talks about where he’s come from and the people around him, what it’s taken to get here and how people are switching up on him now he’s got money.

When we asked him about this, he said, ‘a bit of storytelling gives you a taste of that side of life throughout the tune, some of what happens you know? See it from our perspective, while on the other end going through it in them parts of their town can relate and bump to it.’

And when we asked about the town, specifically, Sapphire City, which features heavily on all his work, Walkerboy said, ‘Sapphire City is my hometown, as well as Breez. Growing up there motivated us to get outta there for the change of things and to do better.’

But our personal favourite is the switch-up on the next track ‘Adidas’ which is great for the EP to demonstrate his range, as well as his ability to switch the flow up. The beat has this early 2000s throwback feel – like Joe might jump on as a feature at any time (Unc moment). It’s catchy, it’s funny, it’s a 90-second teaser, so you can play it back a few times.
